Growing up in Richmond, I have many vivid memories of visiting the Maymont animals as a kid and now I enjoy taking my own children here when we are visiting. It can be very hot in the summer so bring lots of water and wipes to clean hands after petting and feeding the animals. If you have young kids, this is a great spot to explore. You can do a little walking or a lot.
Lots of things to do, staff is friendly. The aquarium needs a little tlc but overall, for free entry this is a good place to enjoy an afternoon. The mansion is under construction currently, but it looks very nice from the outside as well. There is a children’s farm to feed animals, animals are friendly. Can be a lot of walking, there are water refill stations and areas for ac through your exploration!
I was visiting from New York & this is such a cute little farm with a beautiful view! Loved walking around some of the trails & the trees here are gorgeous. Would definitely come back in the future. This was such a great walking workout. There’s no fee for admission but you can buy food for the animals with a free quarters at a dispenser. They have a hand washing station as well which is nice.
Visitors will have the exciting opportunity to buy pallets specifically designed for feeding the animals! Just imagine the joy of interacting with them as you hand-feed these little treats. Be sure to bring some quarters, as you'll need them to access the pallets from the dispenser machine. Alternatively, you can grab token using cash/ card/Apple Pay from the vending machine area, which will provide plenty of pallets for feeding. While you're preparing for this delightful experience, keep in mind that there won’t be any cups available to hold the pallets, so you'll be holding them in your hands—get ready for a few spills! And expect the thrill of feeling the animals gently licking the food right from your palm. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience!
Hermoso lugar para disfrutar de un paseo con la familia, varios animales, todo muy limpio. Y a pesar de que nuestra visita fue en invierno, lo disfrutamos mucho. Definitivamente es una de las parada obligadas si vienes a Richmond.
I have always loved coming to Maymont. I've enjoyed the unchanging nature of the... well, nature, and the incredible and up close animal attractions. My wife and I visited for years before we brought our two little ones. This is a truly unique treasure of Richmond. There's multiple trails of varying difficulty and several distinct areas to enjoy. The Italian and Japanese gardens are a favorite of ours. If you don't see something photo worthy, I'm worried about you. The best part of this place is the history. It was land donated for the use and enjoyment of everyone for free (please donate if you enjoy it as much as we do). We'll continue to visit and recommend to friends for as long as we can.
I've been going to Maymont since I was a baby. It never gets old and it's beautiful any time of the year. My own kids love the children's farm and feeding the goats. They love walking the path to see if the bobcat, fox and bears are out. There are also elk, deer, eagles and more. Then of course their favorite is walking thru the Japanese gardens and across the stepping stones. It is fun for all ages. You can even tour the mansion. There are also special events like the Maymont glow which is fun as a family or girl night. You can take a quick walk or spend the day there. It is truly a treasure in Richmond.
