Not the best location for such a station but the red chimneys are signature part of Queens and Astoria skylines. I remember looking at them when I was a little kid and being fascinated by the size and the red stripes. Hope the station is not polluting the area and there are strict city controls.
Fumes and noise from operations and random liquid discharges into the river. A system should be implemented to notify neighbors of activities that may cause noise or odor.
Been through a bit of the station during a school trip/tour about 15 years ago. The immense and damn near dangerous conditions these workers need to endure for us during summer seasons for us to relax in our A/C filled buildings is absolutely mind-blowing. Temperatures inside can reach a scorching 115 degrees F or even higher. Kudos to the station and everyone that works in it to give us a luxury such as air conditioning.

I live in Roosevelt. Everyday , I observe how you pollute the sea and the air. This is an environmental threat, this place should be out of residential areas.
It generates dirty energy from fossil fuels, but it keeps the lights in NYC on.
I stayed at a nearby hotel and was curious to know what it was, and with my daughter I walked there and was surprised to discover what it was, it looks old and with a lot of history ⚡️
