Back in 2022, the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) held hearings for a request that KERR MCGEE OIL was making to drill next to my neighborhood in Firestone, CO -- and the request was to drill closer than Colorado law permitted (47120, Longs Peak, OGDP ID# 480861, Docket# 210700114). Although the commission eventually rejected Kerr McGee's request (at least as of 2022), the fact that we even had to protest against KERR MCGEE when they were asking to drill closer than legally allowed drove my family and me to move outside of the state of Colorado. When we attended the COGCC hearings to offer our protest, we were required to publicly provide our home address so everyone listening at the meeting would know where we lived (I felt this put my family in danger). The individuals who spoke in favor of the oil company didn't have to provide their address, and also, so many of those individuals were from all over the state (and not in the neighborhood that would have had the dangerous oil field). One of the men from COGCC that was part of the decision making process had worked for the oil company in a previous job (and didn't recuse himself), and during the ZOOM hearings, you could see him walking around within his office and doing other things rather than paying attention and asking questions like the other members of COGCC. We put our house on the market because we didn't trust COGCC as COGCC seemed willing, in my personal opinion, to allow the oil company to proceed if they met certain accomodations; I'm glad COGCC decided in 2022 to reject the oil field and drilling next to homes, but we certainly could no longer live in the state of CO with the possibility of the oil company coming back for another protest, and COGCC deciding in favor of the oil company.
While it took me a while to learn how to use the interactive map for well locations. It has come in very handy for Real Estate. I often refer my clients to this website and map to help them better understand oil wells, past present and future. Thank you!
