Smart & Final Extra!

The store is easy to find and provides plenty of convenient parking. It has a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere and is part of a larger complex that includes restaurants and other businesses, Prices are fair, and the store offers a wide variety of products, making it a one-stop shop that meets all your daily needs from A to Z.

I remember Smart & Final was usually focused on business customers many years ago. But they're mixed with regular household and business customers purchasing at their store now. The Smart & Final Extra! in Elk Grove is pretty big in size. It is about the same size as most larger supermarkets such as Safeway, Raley’s, etc. I don't see a lot of wholesale size packing meats or other items in the store anymore. Most of the meats, vegetables, snacks, dairy products and drinks are packaged for retail size. The store looks very new and clean. The checkout counters are fast, and the cashiers are polite. Shopping is enjoyable here. The parking lot is very big with enough parking available even during peak hours. The area is very safe.

Products and selection are fine. Most of the employees I interacted with were fine. Sad to see customer service decline in the past few years. Asked about an item that I have bought in the past, and the response I was given was, "If you don't see it there, then we might just be out." Pretty sure most employees would say "Let me look to see if I can find it" or, "let me check the system or ask a manger". Just absolutely no effort. As we have stores closing for good weekly, Im sure businesses would love to make sells as often as possible. Would get 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack customer service.

Good location in Elk Grove and lots of varieties of fresh meats and produce. Place are clean but seems a bite cluttered with small aisle. Hard for two peoples with carts past by without careful not hit the others. However, it’s convenient in getting large quantities party items without having to go to Costco. Able to pick up all my items!

The selection is fine. Some of the cashiers act like they’re too good to work there.

Smart and Final is a pretty decent supermarket with reasonable prices and good hours, staying open until 10 p.m. even on Sundays. The checkers are usually pretty friendly and helpful, (especially if you are nice to them). Your best bet if you need assistance is to ask them, as there aren't usually staff members roaming the inner aisles. Lines can get long at times, but there are multiple check stands and they are good about opening new registers when needed, which is convenient. The store has a great selection of restaurant supplies and unique frozen items that you can't always find elsewhere, like Banquet fried chicken, Grillo's spicy pickles, and frozen fried zucchini. Also great is the large selection of Torani flavored syrups. They also have tasty rotisserie chickens at a great price. Overall, a pretty good spot for your grocery needs, especially if you are looking for restaurant stuff or harder-to-find items.
