Every two years they do an open house and it is incredible to see the particle accelerator research facilities, to walk around in the tunnels and see the experiment and measurement equipment.

Very good community outreach every few years for the public to view what the Jefferson Lab does. Very friendly employees who were eager to discuss their jobs.

They host a tour about one day each year that is well worth a visit. They had a cryogenics show to please all ages. But, I liked the tour even more. The real stuff is very industrial looking and long to walk. But, they also had point to point bus service to help. Nevertheless expect some stairs and trekking. You'll love it, if there's some scientific bone anywhere in your body.

Visited open house today, people were so polite and friendly. Very educational, staff answered my many questions and was well worth the visit. Saw quite a bit and plan to go to the next one.

Jefferson Lab is one of the National Labs of the Department of Energy. It can only be visited by appointment for security and safety reasons, but only public non-classified research is conducted here. Every other year (May 2016, 2018,...) the lab has a large open house event.

We took 3 of our grandchildren to visit Jefferson Labs during the Open House event and the day was fun and educational. The staff explained a few of the onsite activities such as defense of their computer network, then we toured an underground portion of the particle collider and also watched a demonstration involving liquid nitrogen! At ages 7 and 11 the kids really got into it! Food onsite was okay as well; there were a few options. These days, the imagination and creative thinking of the staff is as important as the basics of touring a spread-out facility, so I think they did nicely!
