I recently used College Hunks to move from my apartment in Norfolk, VA to my new home in Suffolk, VA, and I’m extremely disappointed with the experience. Their motto says something like, "How can we make your move stress-free?" — but my move was anything but stress-free. I only had a few items to move: a mattress, two dressers, two nightstands, a couch, a stereo, and a disassembled bed frame. Everything was prepped and ready to go before the movers arrived. It should have been a quick and simple job. Instead, the move took four hours, and I was charged about $1,000 (at $199 per hour). I’ve personally moved twice as much furniture with a few friends, and it didn’t take nearly that long. The movers were slow, unmotivated, and wasted time. It took the team leader 30 minutes just to get me the correct paperwork to sign, and during that time, the rest of the crew stood around doing nothing. Friends who stopped by even commented on how lackadaisical the movers were. They had all the proper equipment to make the job easier but still moved at a snail’s pace. When it came time to move our large couch upstairs, they did try, but their efforts were half-hearted at best. We told them we didn’t mind if they scuffed the walls and even offered to remove the railing to help make it work. Despite that, they gave up too early after about an hour of minimal effort. During that time, the truck still wasn’t unloaded, and once they decided on their own that they were done trying with the couch, it took them another 20 minutes to unload the remaining items and stand around before finishing up. After the move, I contacted the local manager, Dominic, and customer service multiple times. Dominic left me one voicemail, but I’ve called him back twice and reached out through customer service again — and no one has returned my calls. Overall, this was a frustrating and stressful experience that cost far more than it should have. I ended up paying around $1,000 to move a few lightweight pieces of furniture, and I even tipped the movers — something I regret, given the poor service. College Hunks claims to make moving stress-free, but this was easily the most stressful move I’ve ever had. I’m posting this to warn others and to hopefully get a response from someone who actually cares about customer satisfaction.

We deeply regret choosing this moving company, and we hope our experience serves as a warning to others. We were misled by the high ratings and ended up learning the hard way.. both emotionally and financially. The company advertises a "stress-free move," but what we experienced was 48 hours of intense stress and anxiety. Pat, the overseas coordinator we were assigned (based in the Philippines), was extremely unprofessional and dishonest. The initial quote she provided seemed reasonable, which led us to move forward but it turned out to be far from accurate. We were never informed of the many hidden charges that only came to light on the actual moving day, directly from the movers at our door. To be clear, the four movers (the "hunks") who showed up were kind and respectful individuals but they were clearly not trained professionals. We often had to guide them ourselves, especially when challenges arose (like getting furniture upstairs). They frequently gave up when things got tricky and we witnessed careless handling of our belongings, items were dropped, bumped into walls, and thrown around. Two of our large sofas were left in the garage because the movers decided they wouldn’t fit the stairs wall. We ended up paying an additional $300 days later to have them properly moved. Nearly all our furniture was either scratched or damaged, and several walls in our new home were also left marked or dented. We tried to file a claim, but Pat informed us we were ineligible for compensation because we were "out of their local service area." One near-disaster involved a large floor mirror that fell inside the truck when a mover carelessly opened the door without checking if it was secured, thankfully, my husband was there to catch it or it would have shattered completely. Our original quote was $4,000, with a possible increase to $5,000 for an extra truck. In the end, we were charged $7,500. We feel completely taken advantage of. If I could, I would shout from the rooftops to warn others. Please do your research and think twice before trusting this company with your move.

Emmanuel and Donte came out and hauled away all the final furniture and boxes from my Mom’s senior living apartment! These two young men were fantastic-they were pleasant, worked together as a team and got the job done quickly! I highly recommend this company.

Im so absolutely appalled at how these movers treated my furniture and my property . I was moved on 7-31-2025 .they showed up late first off ..then delayed even longer wanting me to sign this and that . Then I was told my heavy furniture was going to cost more each piece .finally after trying to figure it out i said wth just TAKE my dresser and mirror .-beautiful furniture -to my apts trash dumpster because i kbew it was too heavy to get upstairs at new home and because they wanted to CHARGE ME $$ FOR DONATING IT TOO THEM so they COULD SELL IT ? WTH?! REALLY ? ? !! FINALLY AFTER THE MOVE AND NOW A COUPLE DAYS LATER AS IM MOVING my furniture around I SEE A BIG HOLE IN MY WALL AND MY FURNITURE (CREAM COLORED )WAS treated like it was junk . Its got black dirty smears on it everywhere .! This is the worst moving company out there & im telling you folks you will SERIOUSLY REGRET it if you get them to move you. Had I seen all the damage they did to my home and furniture later on THE SAME DAY THAT THEY MOVED ME ? I would have STOPPED PAYMENT ESPECIALLY because I TIPPED all 3 $50 why you ask ? because I THOUGHT THEY DID A FAIR JOB considering the 102 heat index - IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT OUT AND I WAS TIRED TO THINK CLEARLY FROM HAVING TOO HELP these 3 GROWN MEN move my things as well as telling them HOW because they couldnt figure out common sense thinking - like taking the legs off the couch SO IT WOULD FIT THROUGH A DOORWAY ! I mean im 68 yesrs old &have had 2 spinal surgeries but YET I had to HELP THEM !! im sure they were laughing behind my back as they left out & they KNEW ID SEE THEIR DAMAGES ..EVENTUALLY .. but by time I found the damages today ? they are LONG GONE and the payments been made . THESE ARE COLLEGE PUNKS ! AND theres NOTHING HUNK ABOUT THEM except the HUNK OF MONEY in damages they will cost you later plus THEY WILL show up late then TRY TO SQUEEZE MORE $$ OUT OF YOU than your expecting with the HIDDEN FEES that THEY NEGLECTED TOO TELL YOU ABOUT ON THE PHONE WHEN YOU FIRST CALLED AND made an appointment - instead THEY WAIT TO SPRING THE HIDDEN COST$$ ON YOU WHEN THEY ARRIVE TO MOVE YOU ..BY then its too late for you too cancel and call some other company and they KNOW THAT ! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY PEOPLE OR YOU WILL END UP BEING AS SORRY AS I AM TODAY FINDING ALL OF THE DISRESPECTFUL CARELESS DAMAGES THEY DID TO MY NEW HOME AND FURNITURE THATS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD !

This is the third time using College HUNKS, once for moving, and two times for junk removal. Each time, the guys were great! They have all been polite and courteous. The work was done quickly and carefully with the extra bonus that the items taken will be donated instead of just thrown out if it can be. I'm grateful that they're in business as I couldn't do the work myself and every experience has been a pleasure. They will continue to be my "go to" for these types of needs! Highly recommend!
