Pep Boys Auto Service & Tires

Went in for wheel alignment after new tires. The customer text we get said about 2 1/2 hr wait time. They were very considerate when I told them I might need to come back another time because I was having an urgent situation and I had to go. One of the technicians walked in and said he would service my car next. He took it in and did the wheel alignment in less than 30 mins. I was so greatful! It was my first time at Pepboys for anything, and I was very pleased with their service.

Summary: "Poor Diagnosis and Unprofessional Service" I came here earlier this week after AutoZone told me my alternator was bad but my battery was fine. I asked this shop to double-check and replace the alternator only if needed. They tested it, said the alternator was bad, and replaced it. After driving 30 minutes on the highway to recharge the battery, my car still died the next morning—I had to jump-start it again just to bring it back. A different mechanic tested it this time and said the battery was bad. So why wasn’t that checked the first time when the alternator was replaced? Instead of taking responsibility, the second guy just blamed the previous employee. Clearly, no one here properly diagnoses the full electrical system. I wasted time and money because they don’t know what they’re doing. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects basic competence.

Terrible attitude. Had an appointment for a simple tire repair. When i got there the guy said they wouldn't be able to look at it for a couple of hours. A bit annoying but no problem, I'll run a couple of errands and be back in 90 minutes. No no no. The truck had to sit in their parking lot or he would put other people in front of me. Headed down the road to American tires and they fixed it in fifteen minutes with no appointment.

Call to get information about purchasing a battery it felt like I was dealing with a salesperson who was intent on selling their product instead of helping me to resolve my issue. It wasn't until I spoke with another worker, that I got advice pertaining to my specific situation, and where I wasn't being corralled into making a purchase with them. Wish that the employees were more consistent with the Pep Boys motto. Of course the first worker was young and the one that solved my issue was older, so I'll chalk it up to that.

Complete Scammers. I went into Pep Boys to get a tire repaired, but they said the tread was too low so I got 4 new tires. I always request the roadside hazard protection because I frequently get nails in my tires doing deliveries, but I was never asked about it and I’m pretty sure I mentioned it as he was grabbing the tires from their storage area past the waiting area. Come back a month later with another nail in my tire and they are claiming I declined roadside hazard protection. There’s is no world where I would have declined it, especially after coming in having a roadside hazard stuck in my tire in the first place. Total scammers that want to separate you from your wallet. I don’t even trust what they told me about my brakes yesterday, probably trying to get me to wear through the rotor. Stay away.

They did not have the correct rotors to install despite having all the information they needed beforehand. They did not tell me this and kept me waiting for hours with no explanation until I asked. Then, on checkout they gave me the wrong invoice -- same model car for the same service, but much of it covered they told me by warranty. Great news, I thought. Then they contacted me with the error and demanded the balance I owed, but refused to honor the $50 coupon I had presented when I checked in unless I came back in person. Total b.s.! Eventually I got them to apply the discount, but only after threatening not to pay anything. Awful commuunication. The place is disorganized. Only 2 stars since they were reasonably courteous and the brake job in the end was fine.

Pep Boys Pasadena really missed the mark. No proper explanation of what was wrong with my car — just a generic printout and vague answers. To make things worse, they handed me a blank oil reminder sticker. That’s not service, that’s sloppy. To be fair, not all Pep Boys are like this. I’ve had solid experiences at other locations in California. Unfortunately, this branch didn’t live up to the Pep Boys name.
