What’s good? This joint is a fun treat and definitely worth stopping by. It’s a super mini-museum filled to the brim with indoor and outdoor displays. Outside includes fabulous overlooks–one at the museum overlooking the gorge and another across the road overlooking the reservoir. Inside includes interactive exhibits and videos. The best part of our visit was the wonderful conversation with the ladies running the show–they were super friendly and knowledgeable about the reservoir operations. If you are interested in dams and related infrastructure, I would recommend checking out this place. The time investment is minimal. What’s bad? Nothing to report.

Temporarily closed, but I still recommend stopping by. Located on top of the mountain, in the back of the visitor center there is a gorgeous view of the river and surrounding mountains. There are a few benches to enjoy as well. Since I didn’t go in the center, I’ll tell you about the outside- Super interesting educational plaques all around talking about the wildlife on the mountain and how the mountain is used for electricity. The electricity part was the coolest and explains why there are so many power lines and utility looking structures around the mountain- this mountain provides electricity to the whole valley. If you are doing the ole drive around I definitely recommend parking here and taking a look.

The Vistor's Center was a delight! The volunteer of the day was exceptional: knowledgeable, courteous, patient, and welcoming. The video and exhibits were very helpful with demonstrating information. The reservoir and mountains were peaceful and were the nature re-set I needed.

Very nice place to go for hiking, boating, fishing and great photo taking. We even saw a wedding party there. Visitor center was nice - the volunteer staff were very helpful and friendly. I was on a knee scooter and it was easy to get around the area. Although we did not go on the hiking trails.

Overall the Raccoon mountain is a scenic beauty. The view from the visitor center is amazing and the Tennessee river view is so pleasing to watch. The people in the center explained us the next things available around there and places to stop for enjoying the scenic overlook. Around the place there are things like reservoir overlook, hangouts place where if you prepare food and go a large group can spend excellent time and there is volleyball court. One more overlook is there where we can watch the glimpse of entire Chattanooga!! Overall one time we can roam around Raccoon Mountain definitely!!

Beautiful place! I wasn't sure what to expect but the long drive had lots of beautiful views and then the visitor center was amazing. Next time I'll try going on some of the trails and bike paths
