My wife recently hired Eric McCurley to come out to help fix our broken front gate. The issue seemed to be that power wasn’t reaching the left side, so my wife asked him to take a look while I was at work. A few hours later, my wife asked me to come home and discuss the gate with Eric related to some wires he had been checking out. When I got home, I spoke with Eric and after discovering that the power was reaching the left gate after all, I called the gate company and confirmed that the problem was a broken piece within about twenty minutes. Eric was at our house for about four hours total, the latter 35 minutes of which was spent adjusting the placement of a circuit board which he advised we move. For this work, we were charged just under $500—roughly $120 per hour plus tax. Eric informed me that this was a much cheaper rate than we could expect from other companies such as Mr. Sparky. However, I called Mr. Sparky today and they told me that they don’t charge for assessing issues and always agree to the cost per job. I later found out that the hourly rate was not discussed with my wife before the work began, and that some work that he did checking wires was based on his theory that these were faulty, which turned out not to be the case. In all, we were charged around $475 for four hours of work, which included checking the power to the left gate and relocating a circuit box. Eric did not diagnose the issue—I was able to do that upon arriving home and confirming the power was working as expected. These seems like an obscene charge for such little work, which didn’t even result in the problem being diagnosed. I would not hire Eric again. --- In response to McCurley's Electric: Wow. I figured Eric was inept after spending a few minutes with him. I'm sad to see how dishonest he is as well. Do yourselves a favor and avoid at all costs.

We appreciate Eric with McCurly Electric for coming out fixing our electrical issues after all these wild storms that have blown through Arkansas. Eric was knowledgeable and quick about fixing our problem and got us back up and running like new in no time. He went above and beyond and fixed some issues he found that we didn’t even know we had.
