If you’re thinking of calling J&A for services, please read this first — our experience might save you thousands from an unnecessary replacement. (Photos are from a licensed technician with another company who confirmed our furnace was operating safely and did not need replacement.) I scheduled a furnace service with J&A on October 23, 2025, because my furnace wasn’t running consistently. Technician Jeremy claimed he noticed a "sour taste" from the pressure switch tube which he said indicated a failing secondary heat exchanger. He then scoped the unit and alleged he saw multiple cracks in the primary heat exchanger and pointed to rust near the motor housing as further "evidence," though he provided no data to support these claims. He shut off our furnace, warning that "we could die" from carbon monoxide exposure because it wasn’t combusting properly. When I asked if he had tested for carbon monoxide, he said that wasn’t necessary based on his findings. He urged us to order a new furnace immediately, warning that he he could get us scheduled within a few days but that waiting could leave us without heat for weeks as temperatures dropped. Feeling pressured and concerned for our safety, we agreed to move forward. I asked for the photos and documentation he said he took, but none were provided during or after the visit. When I followed up, he said he could likely send one photo because the others were not clear and would take too long to upload. I also asked which furnace model was being ordered, and he said he didn’t know the name of it off the top of his head but that I could "Google it." That evening, after not receiving an invoice, pictures, or any information, I grew uneasy and contacted two other licensed technicians for advice. Both said that "tasting" a pressure tube is not a standard diagnostic method. We emailed J&A that same night, October 23, to cancel the furnace order and scheduled a second opinion. (J&A verbally confirmed the cancellation when we called the next day, October 24, but as of October 25, they still have not provided written verification or confirmation despite multiple emails and requests). On Oct 24, a licensed technician from a different company performed a full combustion and flue gas analysis using calibrated equipment. All readings were normal, and he confirmed the furnace was safe and did NOT need replaced—it only needed a new control board. He also clarified that the rust was just surface rust from a bolt near where the motor mounts, which is common in most furnaces and not a safety concern. He provided full documentation and photos of the readings and replaced the part the same day. The furnace has worked perfectly since. I’ve included photos from this second technician showing the combustion and flue gas readings that confirmed the furnace was operating safely. I later learned that J&A is now part of a private equity–backed service network, which may help explain recent changes in service approach and could influence sales incentives or business practices. I cannot speak to the technician personally, but his visit included statements and recommendations for a full furnace replacement that were not supported by objective testing and did not prove to be accurate. We ultimately spent a few hundred dollars instead of several thousands on an unnecessary furnace replacement! I’d encourage anyone using this company to ask for full documentation and objective testing before agreeing to major repairs.
Had great experiences with J&A this past week with several items around our home that needed repaired. In particular, their repairmen Cody and Jesse were a huge help and worked on a few of our projects. Cody walked us through the repairs every step of the way and provided great advice and insight. I've already recommended J&A to a friend just this week and will definitely be using them again in the future.
Very professional. Explained everything about the work in replacing outside wiring and putting in a new breaker box. Came out and gave us the quote and next day did the work. Both workers kept us in the loop of what they were doing and before they left showed us what was done and explained everything done. Give 5 star rating. Very pleased with the work.
On Sunday evening lights in our home began flickering, TV was powering up and down, furnace quit working and lights were turning on and off at various times. Called J&A and their electrician Mike showed up within the hour. Mike found that the bus bar in the breaker panel was extremely corroded, outside wiring and connections were corroded and bare wires were showing at the incoming connection with the power company. Mike recommended a total replacement of the AC panel and exterior wiring. He also managed to move some breakers around so that the furnace was working and we had heat.He also attempted to get us setup for the entire replacement on Monday morning but they were totally booked for that day but promised they would be here Tuesday morning to do the replacement. Mike and Jake showed up first thing on Tuesday morning and got the replacement done before the end of the day. Both Mike and Jake were a pleasure to work with. Both were very knowledgeable and friendly. Kept us informed throughout the day on how things were progressing. Their work was of very high quality and before they left explained again what they had done and answered any questions that we had and cleaned up. Again can’t say enough about their quality of work and expertise. Would highly recommend J&A.
Mike was great. Estimate one day the next installed. Everything went smooth. Clean up was great. Explained everything. Would recommend.
Called J&A about a problem with intermittent power loss on my 2nd floor. Got an appointment for the following day which was a relief to have someone look at the issue so quickly. Trevin arrived on time and showed me how badly the breaker box was with corrosion and underrated breakers along with wear and tear to the outside wiring. I agreed that a replacement was necessary. I was amazed that a service appointment was made for the following day. A crew of 2 arrived on time. Cameron was working on the interior while his partner was doing the exterior wiring. Both were professional and skilled. Also,I asked them to please make sure the door was always closed to the outside since I have indoor cats. They never failed to secure the door. After the work was complete, they explained and showed me what they had done. The breaker box looks so neat and organized now. No more power issues! I would definitely recommend this company. From the office staff who made the appointments to the technicians I had a very good experience.
J&A did a really great job replacing old cast iron pipes under my garage and laundry room. All the workers were lovely and kind. They asked permission before accessing a spot behind my backyard, which I really appreciated. The whole process was really straightforward, they scheduled soon after our consultation and the work was done within 3 days total which was great. They updated me on the progress as the job went along and they were just really good people. All positives for me. Thank you guys!
