This campground is probably my favorite so far. Hubby and I had plenty room to stretch. From grocery store, restaurants, and a gas station, we were well-taken care of. Lots to do and see here!
This year was an awesome show. There are so many things to discuss about this Air show. First you need to get on base so I would suggest that you get there early and get a decent parking spot as I had friends who got turned away because the parking lot was full. Second make sure that you follow the rules that they have posted all along the route because you're on a military base and there are things that you have to do that are allowed off base as an example you cannot bring weapons on base. Third the things that you're going to see are varied aircraft from Giant air transports like the C5 Galaxy to helicopters and everything in between. The displays are awesome there are separate lines where you can view the aircraft and you can actually sit in the cockpit. Make sure you pick the right line that you want to be in. One of the things that I noticed people were missing the displays that are in some of the hangers and believe it or not we had a wonderful time there as they had a lot of different types of displays in my grandkids got the opportunity to handle some weapons and take some pictures and also dig for fossils. Fourth let's talk about the concessions there are so many concessions that you could possibly get any type of food that you would want I was amazed at how long some of the lines were especially for some of the barbecue and ice cream places. Fifth facilities there are many facilities there let's start with going to the bathroom the right at the entrance on the left hand side they're all bunch of porta potties. Next to that around the corner they had medical facilities if somebody had an issue. They also had a water station there. One thing of note we bought water and sunglasses and many of the display places offered both of those for free just an FYI. Lastly I highly recommend this especially the Blue Angel show was unbelievable I highly highly highly recommend this especially at the price which is free.
Spent a week at Macdill (AF Spouse) I’ve visited a lot of bases in and out of the US and I think this is my new favorite base stateside. Very clean base right on the water. Rented a bike from outdoor Rec/Marina Rode along the sidewalk that spans almost the length of the whole base! Beautiful bike ride. Had coffee on the pier and rocks across from Macdill Inn. Macdill Inn was great as well. Parking was a little far from any entrance with luggage. Suggest parking up front and unloading there. The hotel has inspired Starbucks coffee and a few breakfast options (not free) Bike rack on the back side Fitness room Free Laundry Rooms available
Went on this Air Force base for the first time with my retired marine uncle and it was nice mini city! It’s a huge military base with a mall, grocery store, marina, beach, golf course, parks, and camper area. I personally went shopping for a new athletic white shirt to replace my old shirt that was wore out and got lunch in the food court area. I love the no taxes on shopping. Food - subway, Charley’s Philly Steak, Taco Bell and chicken slims. I would prefer a healthy option like chipotle or Zoe’s kitchen in the food court. In the express shopping area do have a fitting room in the back near the kids section. In the exchange area you have under amour, Adidas, Columbia and vineyard vines. Relaxing spots- parks, golf courses, and nice walking path. If you visit please check out the beach because it’s beautiful and nice. Overall, if you have a military connection or are military this is a must visit military base.

I’ve been to the Airshow the last few years and it just keeps getting better. They’ve started to add a bit of drama with a simulated bomb, smoke and fire. Dramatic stuff! The amount of planes is off the chart and the years that span history are even more incredible. Depending on the year, the Blue Angels are always a super cool treat!! There isn’t just a show and planes to tour on the tarmac but to walk through the stages areas is also a great way to meet military personnel and to ask questions. All in all it’s pretty amazing and ok for just about every age. Might want to bring earplugs or headphones for the kiddos!
They have annual air show at the base that everyone can attend.
