We had a whole house generator installed today by Exavier and Joe. They did a great job and went over and above to install the unit for our new home. They identified a fire hazard in the wiring that was done by the original electrician, made the correction and we are confident that everything is wired properly. Thank you for great service!
This is our second generator from Shepp Electric. Since we moved to the west side we explored a few other Generac dealers and they were all they same. They all wanted to oversell us on the size for our needs. Shepp's install was as you would hope (the clean up could have been better). The installers were professional and I appreciated their work ethic. 2x happy and if we move we will do it again.
*MAINTENANCE PROGRAM WARNING* I have had 2 experiences with Shepp Electric - the first was positive, the latest one was negative to the point of me taking my business elsewhere. The first experience was in 2023 when the company came out and fixed the generator problem that allowed our house to have power in a snowstorm. In response to that problem, I agreed to their 2 year generator maintenance program. $209 + additional costs of labor and parts if needed. The maintenance listed on the contract includes Pre-Start Checks & Engine Running Checks. I presented the signed contract to the person that came out to perform the maintenance. He spent 15-20 minutes with the generator and informed me that it needs a new motor, as the generator will not turn over and is throwing a code. He told me there would be a service charge of $95 for this diagnosis, plus parts and labor for when they came back. When I received the invoice, I disputed this with the customer service person, Rachel, as the "service" performed fell within the contract I had signed. Shepp Electric had labeled this as a "Service Call" instead. Rachel said it would take a day or 2 to get back to me on the total bill. Today I received a call back, which was within that 1-2 day timeframe. She informed me they would not be able to waive the $95 service fee and I would also be paying ~$540 for the maintenance program fee, motor part, and labor. I stated that this seems like a shady business practice, as Rachel had told me the diagnosis was labeled as a service call, which is not included in the contract. Her retort was very unprofessional - "I'm not sure if you've ever run a business, but we have expenses we have to cover." Eventually she did offer to reduce the fee to $75, but based on the contract I had signed, this was still an incorrect expense. I told her that we have 2 options - either the fee is completely waived and I pay the ~$540 to have the job done and honor the contract, or I pay the $75 and find a different company to do the job. She told me she would check with her manager and call me back. I received a call back within an hour that they are unable to waive the "service fee". I paid the $75, the maintenance contract has been removed, and I will be finding a new company to complete this job. Incredible to me that the company would choose the $75 - a shady business practice "service fee" that is not part of the contract - over ~$750+ in business over the course of 2 years. And to think Rachel had the audacity to question if I understand how a business works...
I had a great experience with Shepp Electric. Craig Shepp arrived on time for the estimate and was cordial and professional. He explained what needed to be done, how it would be done and answered my questions. I picked Shepp Electric because of their price and their professionalism. My generator was installed on May 26, 2020 by Jason, Charlie, Luke and Joey. The job was done thoroughly and quickly - in about 5 hours. Each guy in the crew knew what they had to do and they worked well as a team. When the installation was completed they cleaned up the area. I also had them install a new outside light with a sensor and they worked patiently while setting the light angles and sensor activation distance. They were not in a hurry to just get it done, but rather they wanted to do it right. Almost a year later and I have had zero issues with my generator and it has come in handy on at least 3 occasions when the power was out.
This review is long overdue. It's regarding some work Shepp Electric did on my mother's home in Grafton. They were replacing a module for the Generac whole home generator as she did not have any power to her water heater. The guy they sent to do the work was completely incompetent and had to have a guy talking to him on the phone to tell him what to do. I'm sorry but if the guy you are sending to do the work doesn't know what he is doing, have somebody with him on site to teach him. Well, in the process of completing the job the breaker for the sump pump in the basement was turned off and never turned back on. And low and behold, the next time it rained the basement flooded because this incompetent employee never turned the breaker back on for the sump pump. When my mother contacted Shepp Electric to explain what happened, the owner refused to take any responsibility and ignored her after their initial conversation. She sent him multiple emails with pictures of the damage done to the basement both before and after the carpet was ripped up and received zero reaponse. The owner was ducking her phone calls as well and never received a call back. She had to have the entire floor replaced throughout the basement. Luckily her homeowners insurance covered the repairs but that is irrelevant. Shepp Electric is the reason that the basement flooded and it should have been their insurance that covered the damage. My mother's insurance premiums went up because of the claim she had to make due to the owner's refusal to man up and take responsibility for their screw up. Steer clear of Shepp Electric, the owner is a scumbag.
We have had Shepp Electric out to our home three times now for servicing our residential generator. They are thorough, efficient, and very professional. Their service members take the time to explain everything they are doing and answered all of our questions. We would highly recommend them.
My husband and I recently had Shepp Electric install a Generac Generator. Right from the first initial contact with Clint, they were great. He was on top of every email sent and answered any questions right away. The technicians (Luke & Jason) were there right on scheduled time and had our install done in no time. Maybe 5 hours, max. They were polite, professional and efficient. I would recommend Shepp Electric to anyone.
