Modernize Power

Eric from Modernize Power did a fantastic job during the sales process, ensuring we got the right system for our needs. Our new solar and battery system is in the early days, but we produce what we need, store energy for the night, and have backup protection. I'm glad Eric recommended Enphase. Enphase's customer support has been great. Nick and the installation team, with their incredible professionalism, also did an outstanding job. From the on-site visit to the roof work and battery install, it was a professional job. We had a few issues, but the way Nick handled them made me realize we picked the right company. It's still our few months with our new system, but I'm confident they will assist us if we have any issues. I will use them again and am considering adding additional batteries as we grow our family.

Modernize Power installed a 22KW Generac whole house backup generator and a 14.8KW Panasonic ground mounted solar array with Solaredge inverters and optimizers. Although the most expensive by far for the generator, I was satisfied that Modernize was taking care of the system from soup to nuts including all the propane work. The install team was professional and courteous. The quality of the workmanship was superior in every way -- to the extent that the inspectors commented on it as well (I'm an electrical engineer, but not an electrician). My disappointment, hence the 4 out of 5 was the solar. Although the solar system is 50% larger than my solar on another home, it produces 25% less energy due to the placement. The whole purpose of the solar was to ensure we were completely independent from the grid in terms of net energy production, especially since we are planning for a battery system as well. That has fallen far short of our needs. It would have been better to build a bigger system or change the placement to ensure my goals were met. I would have gladly paid more to have a larger system, but I was told this system would meet my needs. It wasn't until it was too late that I noticed the low production *after* the system was fully commissioned. That was a big miss and a huge disappointment. I struggled with whether or not to knock a star because I was really satisfied with the generator work and, as I said earlier, the workmanship is superior quality. But as it stands now, I will need to add on to this system to meet my goals -- I'm not sure that I will use Modernize for that project--I'm continuing to analyze the efficiency of this system to validate all of the other design tradeoffs made by Modernize -- if I don't find any issues, I will consider using Modernize in the future, but I will spend more time analyzing their design drawings and plans. Most people wouldn't be able to do that, so I recommend lengthy discussions and diligence before proceeding with a solar system from Modernize.

I had Modernized Power install a 18kw Generac air cooled generator. My warranty date for this generator started Sept 17, 2024 so it was recently installed. On the day of the final inspection I asked for a quote in regards to an option to make the generator less noisy. After multiple weeks went by I contacted Modernized Power a second time and asked for a quote again. I was told a quote would be sent by the end of that day. No quote arrived. I called Modernized Power a third time and asked for a quote again and was told a quote would be sent 5 days later in email. Five days later no quote. I think contacting Modernized Power three times and never receiving a quote is enough. No sense asking a 4th time since asking 3 times was two times too many. My request for a quote was always to the same person either in person or over the phone. Fast forward to an electrical problem. One of my 240v appliances wouldn't turn on. I checked to see if the breaker popped and it didn't so I bought a new appliance. The appliance was 24 years old and I thought it went belly up. When the new appliance I bought was plugged in it wouldn't turn on. I decided to call an electrician and he concluded there was low voltage on the 240v line that is why the appliance won't turn on. Since the Generac equipment was recently installed, September 17, 2024, he recommended calling Modernized Power since they installed it. I called Modernized Power the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday Nov 27th, and an appointment was set for Thursday Dec 5th. Based on my previous experience, never receiving a quote after asking 3 times, I decided to call on Wednesday Dec 4th to confirm someone was coming on Thursday Dec 5th. During the call on Wednesday Dec 4th I was told no one would be coming on Thursday Dec 5th because an employee just quit. I asked when they would be able to give me a new appointment date and was told I would receive a call next day, Thursday Dec 5th, around 9am. They said that would be enough time to reschedule customer appointments. Long story short, I never received a phone call on Thursday Dec 5th in regards to a new appointment date. I even called during the day on Dec 5th for a status update and was told I would be contacted by end of day. I asked two times for a new appointment date and no appointment date was received. So I decided to call Generac to see if I could contact another dealer for support. They said yes I could contact another dealer and they gave me the 3 top rated dealers in my area. I contacted one of the dealers and they are coming next week to troubleshoot the Generac equipment to see if it causing the low voltage on the 240v line. I called Modernized Power back on Friday Dec 6th since they never scheduled a new service appointment date like they promised. I told the person that I have been working with this entire time, since September 17, 2024, that I called Generac and was referred to other dealers. I went over the history of not receiving a quote after asking 3 times and not getting a new appointment date after asking two times. Also during that phone call to Modernized Power on Friday Dec 6th I was told they were currently in a meeting and the owner was sitting there in the meeting. I was told the owner got my voicemail and would call me back later in the day. That phone call never came. From an overall fairness perspective the crew that came out to install the generator were very professional and cordial. Answered my questions and were easy to work with. But the problem is with the after installation support. I asked 3 times for a quote and 2 times for a service appointment. Those 5 requests were never honored. I paid Modernized Power $17850.00 for a 18kw Generac air cooled generator and installation. That is a boatload of money. If I knew the after installation support was going to be this bad I would have never bought the generator from Modernized Power.

I have used Eric and his team at Modernize two times in the last 6 months for projects at my home. The first project was the installation of a Generac whole house generator. From start to finish Eric and his team were very professional, responsive, and got the job done on time. The second project was solar installation. We are thrilled with the finished result and have recommended Modernize to close family and friends.

Had Solar, whole house fan and Generac generator installed by this company! From the top down with Eric Caldwell to all of the staff, I am blown away by the precision, process and people they have! They followed though with every promise, rare these days in the construction/service industry. The service has been PHENOMENAL! Great company and great people and great work! Honest pricing, and Eric knows the solar industry and built my confidence, he actually recommended me not do certain things to save money and things I didn’t need that other companies had tried to sell me on doing. Go with this company if you’re considering going solar!

Modernize recently installed a new Generac standby generator and new panel for us… and their team is top notch. Their quote was the lowest and the work was done exactly in the quoted time. Eric did a great job walking through the sizing and estimate. Nick and his crew did a great job with the install, working well into the evening to make sure everything was on schedule and done right. The panel itself was a lot of work and was done professionally and very cleanly. After a small oversight (most likely on my end) the Manager Brandon called me and came out that night after his regular jobs and got me up and running. Modernize really had their stuff together when it came to communication, permits, jobsite, scheduling, etc. I would not hesitate hiring them for any electrical job.

Hired Modernize power to install solar panels and relied on their product judgment and materials. They were a referral from a family member to begin with who also was very happy with their work. I found the install team to be very professional throughout the process. It wasn’t until a family member had a similar install that I decided to add solar, for some years now I fought against it based on cost but now I’m happy to have done it through Modernize power, and I’m very happy to watch my solar generation feeding back to PG&E !
