We needed electricity in one of our WrenOak Vineyard outbuildings and decided to put in an off-grid solar electrical system. Our electrician recommended Imagine Energy. The whole process was excellent from start to finish. Every member of the crew was first rate and easy to work with. We now have electricity for our lights, fans, internet, EV charger... I could not be happier with "Imagine Energy" and have recommended them to friends and colleagues.
Imagine installed a solar system onto a new roof on this house some 2.5 years before I bought it. The roof started dripping water in January and I tried to contact them about fixing it. Contacting them took two days (+ weekend) of calling and leaving messages before I finally went down there in person and spoke to someone. From then on we mostly emailed, but when I did call they literally never picked up when I pressed 3 for service, and only intermittently when I pressed 1 for sales. Emails were sometimes replied to same day, but sometimes only after 2, 3, or 5 days or just ignored completely. The copy of the warranty I had from the house sale mentioned a workmanship warranty but gave no details about its scope or time range. Imagine staff ultimately patched the roof - twice - but it took two months, dozens of emails, and along the way I felt that I was treated pretty rudely on several occasions. The office manager would not provide me with a copy of the workmanship warranty or spell out what I could expect, and instead acted like I was being unreasonable when I kept asking. She rescheduled me once a few days ahead of the expected visit because she had forgotten it was a federal holiday. She once scheduled me for the morning of "Tuesday the 19th" when Tuesday was the 18th, and didn't clarify till Tuesday afternoon when I had already wasted the morning waiting for them to arrive that what she meant was Wednesday. And once I hung out for the duration of the arrival window only to later be told that the owner had come by and knocked but nobody answered. My car was there, I was there, but he didn't bother to call, just left and I kept waiting another hour. It was just always some small annoyance or lack of organization or professionalism on their part that made things worse. The leak was such a minor issue but they managed to make it pretty hellish and lengthy to deal with. It took two months and two patch jobs to fix the roof, and in the process it became clear that there were multiple extra holes through the roofing at at least two locations, where I guess the installers were stabbing around looking for the rafter, then threw some tar on the additional holes when they were done. While Imagine did ultimately patch the roof and the drywall, I have very little confidence in them and would rather pay someone else to fix it the next time it fails - which I suspect it will, given their apparent installation practices - than deal with them again. For those of you looking to install solar panels on your composite shingle roof, please know that you will be putting holes through it and voiding whatever warranty you have, and please, please read the warranty carefully so you know what to expect if you have a leak! I'll end by saying that the guys who came to patch were truly delightful - punctual, communicative, honest and friendly. I wish the office end of things could match the level of the technicians!
I had solar installed by Imagine Energy, and it was a complete disappointment. They took full payment, overcharged me, and still the system doesn't work — no energy in the house. These people are scammers. Avoid them and save yourself the trouble!
Do NOT hire this company! Imagine Energy is the worst contractor I've ever had the displeasure of working with. They performed the job incorrectly, ignoring both the signed contract and the permits. Specifically, they connected our solar system to the wrong electrical meter on our building. While they eventually set it up correctly (after WE notified them of the issue), this resulted in a 6 month delay. The staff were uncommunicative and uninformed on the project - there was no clear project management whatsoever. We asked for a project timeline and building use schedule multiple times and were not provided with this information. We regularly had to send 3+ emails over the course of multiple weeks just to get a response. We are a small nonprofit community center and cannot recommend staying away from Imagine Energy enough.
Our inverter stopped working and Imagine offered to replace it at our cost. They never provided the requested quote so we got another company to come out. They stated our inverter was under warranty which Imagine never informed us of. Manufacturer informed us our inverter warranty was voided by Imagine's incorrect installation. Even when we were going to be paying the company was not very responsive. We made them aware of their incorrect installation and our voided warranty in September of 2023 and still no resolution. Company seldom responds and always says they are working on some solution for us. We've lost thousands of dollars of solar benefits due to our system being down for years without proper assistance from the installer, Imagine. We've waited and waited before doing negative reviews to give them opportunity after opportunity to resolve. Finally reached the limit after them going back to ignoring emails like the 20-30 times before this. Terrible company if you want your work done right or for them to follow through on anything. Update, after bad review and complaint to Better Business Bureau, company came out and replaced parts in Inverter damaged by bad install. Tech didn’t speak with us and unit was not working after they left. Followed up with company who reported it was working fine and lack of wattage was clouds. Turns out technician forgot to turn on the power into the inverter. Luckily, working now after 3 years of energy lost. Disappointed company didn’t let us know about warranty and included service contract in beginning and would have let us pay for repairs.
November 7 Update: Changing to 2 stars since our system finally went online at the end of October. I still wouldn't recommend choosing this company but at least the work is complete and everything seems to be working well. Original Review: Our initial consult with the Sales team was great and we had friends that had worked with Imagine Energy with no problems so we felt confident that we had picked a reliable contractor. However since signing our contract, putting down a 50% deposit and being introduced to our original Project Manager in mid September 2022 we ran into several difficulties. It has been over a year now and we still do not have a functioning system. There were three instances where Imagine gave us installation dates, but then ended up not beginning the work. On one of these occasions we were at least told about the delay, but for the other two I had to email and call after Imagine simply did not show up to our house. Additionally, once the work finally did begin it took nearly a month for Imagine to finish and I had to actually call their Accounts Receivable department explaining why we hadn’t paid the remaining invoice balance to get the installation completed. Once the system was installed, Imagine forgot to leave the proper paperwork at our house so the initial inspection with the county failed. And as the final straw, Imagine did not complete the required forms with the utility company to swap out our meter, resulting in another delay which is still pending. Even more frustrating than the delays, was the poor communication from the company. We went through two project managers and getting any sort of response (if we even received one) usually took several calls and emails. There was a lack of proactive communication when delays arose and we’ve wasted far too much time trying to figure out when our system would actually be installed. I cannot recommend using Imagine Energy.
I saw Scotts review below and had to chime in too. We signed our contract in June '22 as well. Our sales experience with Heath was fantastic and I felt I was making a great choice. It is now April 3, 2023 and I haven't heard anything. I have reached out a few times to see where we're at in queue and I generally get some reasoning that the install crew is sick, or weather is bad. I reached out in February with no response from the Project Manager we were assigned. I've left well enough alone from December through now since obviously the weather hasn't been particularly great, but we're going on 1 year with no clue when we'll be able to get our system installed after an original install estimate of September '22, then Nov '22. I would be very cautious moving forward with Imagine Energy as their Project Management team does not instill the confidence their sales team does. EDIT - 7/19/23. It's done. It's finally done. After submitting this review I was contacted by Heath on their sales team. My project was given to their owner, Pat. Pat followed up shortly thereafter. We had a couple snags getting the install date done, but we got there. The install team was very nice and courteous. The day they arrived it was already too hot and they didnt want to scuff my roof with their shoes so they said they'd come back the next day. They showed up bright and early and started getting everything done and completed that afternoon. A week later the electricians came and got everything wired up, they were also super kind, and Slater was really good at getting back to me about the appointment with City of Gresham to get everything approved. We hit some snags there too and it took a bit longer than expected, but eventually we had Imagine and City of Gresham there to make sure everything was up to code in one visit. It's been about a week since then and PGE just left my house and everything is working as expected. Overall, all parts of this experience actually went rather well minus the project coordination fumbles with communication. Because the Sales team, Installers, and Electricians pulled a LOT of customer service weight I'm changing my rating from 2 to 4 stars. The team that needs help is the Project Managers, which is unfortunate since they should be the main contact point for customers, though Pat did well picking up where they left off and getting us to the finish line.
