Do not use this company!!!!! I bought my house that already had solar through them and the service has been horrible. The utility bill is insanely too high still, too!! Part of the roof got replaced during the closing period when we bought the house in 2022, so we needed to have them remove 5 panels before and then put them back after. They took several months to get back to us about the panels, finally sent someone out, said someone said they just needed parts and would come back, and then they did not come back. Not only did they not come back, they lied to us and then the company said that the roof wasn't safe, which it obviously is. I walked on it and jumped plus had the roofers double check it and the city inspection went through perfectly. Then the company said it needed a redesign and wanted a crazy fee even though they'd already said it would be fine to just put the panels back up... It's now been literally years and they won't do anything if we don't keep paying their insane monthly costs even though it doesn't seem to do anything, while still having a $600 monthly utility bill, plus terrible customer service and 1/3 of our solar panels still just are unhooked up and sitting on the ground. If we hire anyone else to put them back, the warranty will be voided. They're screwing us over and not answering our calls. I'm now looking into lawyers. Do not use this company!!!
We got our system installed a few years ago. It's been running fine until the end of August when apparently it just stopped. We didn't know it had stopped until we received a $400 bill from Duke Energy. We contacted Sunrun about it and they did a system check (which takes up to 3 days!!!) only to find out they need to send someone out to look at the system in person (no kidding!) So we schedule an appointment, the earliest of which was 3 weeks away so now we are probably going to get another $400 Duke bill on top of our Sunrun bill. Day comes for the appointment which was set between 11:00-12:00. It's now after 4:00. No call. No show. I've contacted Sunrun and they told me I have to speak to the coordinator. I told them that she got off work at 3:00 so who do I talk to now???? They said they couldn't help. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I do NOT recommend using this company. They are good at sales, but fail miserably at servicing their customers.
I had hoped that the terrible stories about solar being a headache and that companies were shady. I am furious to report that my experience with this company ended up being unpleasant. They were great in selling it to me, painting a pretty picture of savings, energy efficiency, etc. I was told that once solar kicked in after city approved, I would only pay for the connection to my local power company ($30 or so). This is in addition to my solar payment. It was at the top end of what I can afford for power, but the idea was that over time it would stabilize my bill. WRONG. I have paid $90-100 a month to my power company. In talking to their customer service, I learned that my solar set up only covers 80% of my usage. All the rest has to come from the grid, which is why I’m getting these bills. The sales person told me that he designed enough solar panels to cover my usage, and assured me that the only payment for my local power company would be to maintain connection from the grid. There was never any discussion that it might be higher if I had more power consumption, because what he sold me was supposed to cover my power consumption. I feel lied to, and I am stuck with this system that is costing me more money every month than just staying with regular power. I am absolutely furious and cannot stress enough: DO NOT GET SOLAR FROM THIS COMPANY.
I've had several ongoing issues with roof leaks where the solar panels have been installed. Each time I called for a leak repair, the technician who came out said they found the problem regarding my leaks. As a solution, they put tar and a plate down and tightened a bolt or 2. Twice, I have received a "settlement" payment to repair the damage inside the house caused by the leaks from the solar panel installation. The last time a technician was out, he removed the solar panel over the kitchen and took it upon himself to lift up some of the roof shingles to get underneath them, and broke them off, causing more damage to the roof. Then he took some pictures of the damage he did, and SunRun used that as an excuse to claim that this isn't covered under the warranty. The same warranty that is good for 10 years on the installation. It's only been 3, and these are the exact same leak issues SunRun has already "settled", meaning, they admit it was caused by faulty installation and is covered under warranty. The technician also never put the panel back in place properly, and is currently loose on 1 corner, there is an electronic device of some sort laying on the roof under the panel that looks like it should be secured to the panel itself, wires that are not secured and the front guard rail was left off completely. We're now in hurricane season and this panel is loose on my roof. I worry about the panels and my roof when we have a bad storm. Now this panel has been left loose with pieces parts just laying up there. This ALONE is unacceptable. It is absolutely ridiculous to think that the same leak issue that SunRun has been out here to repair several times is suddenly not their fault. If it's gotten worse, it's because SunRun has never properly repaired the leak caused by improper installation they've already admitted too. I absolutely demand that someone come out here and secure the solar panel, fix the 2 leaks in my roof, and repair the damage to the roof itself caused by your technician. and quite possibly repair the wood decking underneath that is likely rotted due to SunRun not stopping the leaks in the first place. My entire roof was replaced and was only 3 years old when the Solar Panels were installed. Now I have 2 uncontrollable leaks caused by improper installation and they are both covered under your warranty. I have called and emailed and complained about this for months and I'm now being "ghosted". No response, no reply. Completely ignored. If I have to pay for this repair myself I am documenting everything and taking them to small claims court.
Man, lots of bad things said about Sunrun! I like them so far. Turned on my panels April 2025, saving $ on electric already! I'm 65 now and have a 25 year year lease. Not worried about the last 10 years. With two adult children and a wife at home in Florida, we would easily have 4--450$ bills, plus carryover. Now we pay $250-275. Not for everyone, good for high energy users.
DON'T GET ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!!! IS THE WORST I made the biggest mistake of my life signing the contract to get my system in July 2023. I saw them in Costco. In January 2024 the system was finally "working" , after several technicians came to my house to repair what other of their technicians had done wrong . They always were criticizing what the technicians were doing (and they are from the same company). Even they changed the newly installed battery BEFORE the system was working. Fifteen months later I got a power outage and the backup system almost ruined my freezer. Thank God I was home and I was able to turn my freezer off, because it was making a terrible sound. . When I called, because the battery is still under the 10 year warranty, they told me that I have to pay $614 for a technician to come and repair what they themselves did wrong. Sunrun has the worst customer service, they are so rude. Now I have to keep paying for 23 more years for a crappy "backup" system that's ruining my life.
After years of research and waiting to get solar panels I finally decided to get them, and used Andy Montavon and Sun Run. Andy is a great salesman. He is very knowledgeable, really listened to me and understood what I needed. Andy and his team made the entire process from beginning to end extremely easy (Sun Run basically does everything for you). They designed a system that fully replaces my electrical use, leased the panels so I didn’t pay anything up front, and did a great job installing them. I just had my house inspected for the 1 year warranty and was told that the panel’s connections to the roof were sealed perfectly (which I was also told doesn’t happen all the time) so I don’t have to worry about the roof leaking. Since the system was installed I received two bills and I am saving money. It has also produced more kWh then I used, so I now have extra kWh in my account with the electric company. 100% recommend Andy and Sun Run.
