I went through 3 people in this company to get a "100 deposit" requirement retracted and none of them saw logic. I had the payment in my account expected them to take it out on the payment date set. They did not take it out. Excuse me... if you cant take a payment on the weekend why is it even an option on your payment system? Me thinking the payment went through showing online a 0 owed balance. I paided my other bills. Apparently they never took the payment! Mind you 5 days later! Now you want to charge me. My original balance a returned check fee plus a returned check fee in my account then 100 dollar deposit!? What a freak crock of crap!. If you can avoid their service, do it. They offered no solutions even after I told them I'd pay the balance and the returned check fee!
1 star is generous. Clearly I’m not alone in being disappointed in TPU. Tacoma is mismanaged in general, but I’ve been experiencing first hand how poorly they run their utilities over the past few months. If your auto payments don’t go through, which almost always is because of some kind of hardship, they charge you $200. That is actually barbaric. Employee’s say it’ll be returned to you, but not when… The only necessary consequence to a fee not being retrievable would be turning the power off instead of stealing money from those clearly already struggling in some capacity. Then, I come home on one of the hottest days of the summer to our power being shut off WITHOUT WARNING. Our elderly pets are stuck in a sweltering house for who knows how many hours? Luckily I had the money to have it turned back on, which it was almost immediately. Very surprising coming from a service so poorly managed. I personally called and was given an extension for later this month and this still happened. The systems in this city are soulless and I have seen an overwhelming amount of evidence at this point to see that is true. Lord have mercy on y’all running TPU because you manage it like absolute monsters.
Worst company ever. They have multiple systems that do not communicate with each other. I spoke with a supervisor, her name was Shy. She was hella rude. She didn't care at all and was obviously frustrated because they suck and are probably getting complaints daily. They robo dial you to tell you that your water will be shut off and the system ins from the stone age so it can't leave a voicemail. They will not text or email you if your about to be disconnected. They snuck up to my house today and turned off the water with my wife home. Didn't knock or nothing. So much for common curiosity or human decency. This company is trash but they control the water so we have to jump through hoops.
TPU has the most heartless individuals I’ve ever talked to in customer service and managers. Our bill is not even 10 days late and a minimal amount they always have trouble mailing to the correct address we never seem to get our bill , which I’ve notified them a bunch before I call today to inform them I will make my $130 payment after work and they can’t even allow 1 day grace they threatened to turn off today (again not even 10 days late) told them we are on a well and if power is off our water is off, we have newborn baby pigs that will die today with the heat and no water. With all the death in the world right now they still wouldn’t allow til the end of the day. Such a disgrace of a company. And at the end of the day they took a remaining balance from a completely Different address and tacked it onto our address SHADY !!!
Terrible, cruel people "manage" this place. Pray there isn’t a problem with auto-payments or a billing issue (very common and often their fault). They will not communicate with you and you’ll find out when you come home to all your food being spoiled because they’ll just cut your power without ever notifying you there’s a problem. I also hope you don’t have essential medical equipment that requires electricity because these callous and irresponsible people will gladly let die you before communicating with you. Disgusting.
I was in the utilities office to pay my bill yesterday and I noticed that the now retired Pierce County Sheriff was also there as a customer. When he approached the counter he was being assisted by an African American woman. After a brief conversation she excused herself and about 10 minutes later a different woman came to assist the retired Sheriff. It was blatantly obvious that the employee acted in a manner that was not acceptable and I even stayed in the lobby to watch the whole situation. If your employees are so immature perhaps they shouldn’t be in a customer service position.
