Excellent experience from first phone call to utility interconnection. Collaborative design process, professional installation and coordinated scheduling throughout. Have referred my network, including friends with new construction projects in the Bay Area.
I selected Cobalt Power Systems after noticing several projects in the neighborhood and speaking with a customer. After speaking with the Cobalt sales person (Jay), and receiving a detailed proposal, I signed on for a system with battery backup. That started a process which has been painless. Cobalt handled all the documentation/approvals from System design, City permits, PG&E paperwork, etc with only an occasional signature on my part. The installation process also went very well with the installers working with me to minimize equipment visibility. (Because our gas meter is directly below the main electrical panel, PG&E rules prohibit any additions in a clear zone) I provided enclosure outside of the PG&E safe zone and the workmen concealed all wiring from the primary panel to the new gateway. Not only was their electrical work nicely done, they were respectful of my needs and cleaned up the area daily. Finally, the system has been on line for approximately six weeks now and 97% of my consumption has been provided by the solar system. Needless to say the system & installation have met my expectations.
Truly solid company. Great installs. When is comes to what truly matters the work being done on your home is the most important. Less BS to deal with on the backend. Solar and battery stays for 25 years.
I just finished a third round of Solar PV installation with Cobalt Power Systems. Every time was impressive. In 2010, I installed a PV system of 40 SunPower panels. That went very well, and the system performed better than predicted. In 2016, I added 44 LG PV panels which brought my power production to cover 100% of my electric bill, which has been zero since 2016. Both installations went extremely well. Based on my past experience with Cobalt, I went with them again this year to install a Tesla Powerwall System of 3 units to help me ride through the predicted PG&E issues in the bay area. I got about 4 different estimates from different companies. Cobalt was the highest bid, but I went with them anyway. I’m glad I did. Why? As an electrical engineer myself, I am continually impressed with their engineering. The other companies, not so much. I heard from one of the other companies that I would have to trench a new main line to power my whole house with a battery storage system at the EXTRA cost of $30,000-$50,000. Wrong! I had a recommendation from a friend of a company that installed his Tesla Powerwall who later rescinded his recommendation, based on a job that had to be redone to get it right. Cobalt’s engineering has always produced a proposal that needed no "change orders" or things that were left out. They are true professionals. In 2016 and this year, my sales engineer was Drew Johnson. He gave me a quote which included detailed design specs that made sense. They told me they were backed up and couldn’t begin until August. In May, Drew called me and said they had an opening, would we like to start. And they did. And they finished. No surprises. Everything went smoothly. The only delays were from city and PG&E inspectors. Their install team showed up on time every day. They worked hard and got the system in and it is performing flawlessly. They also painted all the equipment to match our house so it is not only functional but cosmetically consistent with our home. I have to also thank Ricardo Mercado who was the project manager of the installation and his team and Tatiana Hamo who made sure that all the compliance papers were filed correctly with PG&E and the city of Saratoga so that everything was compliant and that I would be getting all my tax credits and SGIP rebates from PG&E. If you want to be confident in a good engineering job without surprises from a team of pros, I highly recommend Cobalt Power Systems.
Cobalt Power Systems was recommended to us by our roofing contractor to be installed in conjunction with our new roof. We are thrilled to now be offsetting the cost of our high PG&E bills with solar power and the installation was smooth from start to finish. Cobalt did an excellent job of communicating with us and any small glitches we encountered were easily remedied with a phone call. We would highly recommend the team at Cobalt to install your solar power system.
We interviewed several companies but none of them would consider solar panels for our house because we had wood shake shingles. I'm SO glad Cobalt had the right team in place to make sure we could do solar panels on our roof. They were professional, delivered what they promised and never was there a time when I emailed/contacted the team and they didn't get back to me in less than a day. After working with a lot of contractors over the past year, I can say that Cobalt was the best to work with. They left out no details in their plans! We're very happy with the design (can't see from the front of the house) and more importantly the energy being saved.
Cobalt has done several projects at our house. We now have a very functional PV and battery-backup system that not only brings down our utility cost, it also helps us when the rest of the block loses power during winter storms. Cobalt is a pleasure to work with. They are reliable, know what they are doing, and don't get intimidated by the constantly changing and honestly insane paperwork that PG&E requires. I would not hesitate to hire them again, if I could think of anything else to add to our system. And the best part is the outstanding customer support. Even years later, if I have any other question, they have always gone out of their way to help me out.
