Very cool to learn about the very first wind turbine in North America. This thing is huge!! So many other interesting things in the area as well so you could spend an afternoon exploring the vicinity. It’s right by the water which offers a lovely view. Worth the visit.
North America's first urban wind turbine. Right on the beautiful banks of Lake Ontario. There are a number of very informative plaques all around the base of the turbine. Take a few minutes and learn about this eco friendly power project.
We had seen this wind turbine from a distance and decided to go visit it. It was nice to be able to get so close to the actual turbine. Usually they are behind fences but this one you can get right up to. The original Urban wind turbine in North America
Erected in 2002, the Wind Turbine was a joint project between Windshare Cooperative and Toronto Hydro Energy Services Inc.. The $1.4 million dollar Wind Turbine stands 95 meters above the eastern shore of the grounds and produces 1,800-megawatt hours of energy per year, enough electricity to power 250 homes. It is the first urban wind turbine in North America providing green electricity sources that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.
