Took my bike in for service, it was done within 2 hours (on a Saturday, when they were extremely busy) at a great price. They even fine tuned everything specific to my size after completing the work at no extra cost. For the other reviews talking about staff rudeness, I think that's more the busy pace that they're working at in a very small shop and not rudeness. It was a great experience!
Velocity is not only so great to have in the neighborhood because they will teach you how to fix your bike, they are also a great place to buy a bike! Back in May, I bought a used e-bike from Velocity. It has changed how I get around! I bike everywhere now and it's all thanks to Velocity. Head there to get your bike fixed AND to get a new one!
Christian just saved me $300, and made me a repeat customer. I first took my Trek Hybrid bike in for a tune up and repairs to a different bike shop who wanted to charge me $315 and said I need to replace many parts. Christian was honest and looked it over, and fixed everything in 20 minutes. I’m blown away!
I'm really disappointed to be writing this. I used their "workshop" Wednesdays and had a VERY unimpressive experience. The volunteer that was there, supposedly to help people who stop by to fix a bike, is apparently stuck on an ego trip and needs to try to make people feel inept (maybe to feel better about himself?). I got him the first time I came in and told him that I was not a stranger to tools and mechanics but that I had no experience with bike parts and so really just needed the guidance on what parts, how they install, etc. Tonight he was there again, and maybe after not being able to satisfy himself on my dime, he went and sat in the corner and said, "let me know when you're ready to get it done. I figured out how to remove the old cable, run the new one, and get everything close enough to where I could take it with my to a different shop. All this from an organization that sounds really cool and worth getting involved with. To put this guy as one of the first people you meet as you come into their shop. What a shame.
I’m a novice indoor cycler and I came into Velocity looking for some indoor cycling shoes because I’ve been using sneakers for the past year. I was a bit intimated heading into the shop because I don’t know much about cycling, but Christian put me at ease immediately. He offered the most welcoming, kind, and thoughtful assistance. He had me try on some shoes he had available, talked about the type of cleats I’d need, and mentioned that I’d probably prefer a pair of shoes that I could also walk around in a good bit. Once I found a pair of shoes that fit and suited my needs, he got them set up with SPD cleats. I walked out of there with literally everything I needed - my shoes, a cycling education, and a nice friendly chat - for $30. If I ever decide to take up outdoor cycling this is the first place I’d come to, no question! Thank you so much!
Made the mistake of calling to try and get a part that I needed sorted. Before I could give a more thorough explanation of the niche part to see if it was worth dropping in, the team member that answered jumped ahead of me, made me feel like the question (that I was just starting to explain about) was a waste of his time and dismissed me all in about 1 minute. Impressive hopeful-customer to bad review speed run. I'm sure y'all have a fine business, but some of your people shouldn't be allowed near the phone.
It hurts to leave such a low star review but a rating system exist for a reason. Before coming here I absolutely loved the idea of what this place was about, community oriented, small business, for people by people type of establishment. I mean how could you hate? I went in excited as I'm relatively new to biking and have decided to build me own (just for fun!). Sadly my experience was quickly ruined by a staff mechanic there who had an AWFUL attitude. He began lecturing me, made me feel small/like an idiot and talked his way out of sale with how rude he was being. I don't think this is something that can't be corrected but I hope that the staff realizes that they dont just work on bike but also work WITH people. I've read a few reviews and have seen the same trend with low star reviews (rude staff). High star reviews seem to be because there is little to no staff interaction, bike drop off to bike pick up. I hope that you all can come together as a business and address this issue before it fully takes away from a much needed bike store/repair place/bike community center model that doesn't readily exist in the DMV.
